Laminate flooring is a great option for home or business owners who want long lasting, durable flooring with very low upkeep and a lot of upside. Laminate flooring is popular today because not only does it fit this description but it looks good while it does it as well. Wilsonart Commercial flooring is a great example of no fuss, laminate flooring that is easily maintained.

Wilsonart’s Commercial flooring line is available in several different beautiful designs. Their laminate flooring comes in different, authentic looking wood species such as Black Walnut, Natural Bamboo and even Nutmeg Hickory. If you aren’t interested in having laminate flooring modeled off of a type of wood then there are still a lot of options available to you. You can take a look at all of the color options here.

Possibly the most impressive thing about Wilsonart’s Commercial Flooring is quite possibly its Trac-Loc feature. Trac-Loc is a new way to install floors and it is geared towards the commercial sector. Wilsonart created this flooring to allow businesses to quickly and efficiently put down (and take up, if needed) laminate flooring. No glue is necessary when installing this flooring which enables installers to individually change and move the planks around as they see fit, without taking up the entire floor. Most flooring installation has to work toward a single direction, with Trac-Loc this isn’t necessary. Floor installers can work in any direction that they choose and you can even have several working in different areas which just makes the process even faster.

Wilsonart’s Trac-Loc installation system is so impressive that it won best of Show and the Grand Prize Innovation Awards during its debut at NeoCon 2002. NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, is the largest exhibition of contract furnishing in North America and it features the latest trends, products and concepts in office, healthcare, hospitality and numerous other environments.

Wilsonart’s Commercial line of flooring is perfect for the home or business owner who wants great looking floors without all of the hassle.

There are a host of choices that face any homeowner looking to purchase flooring. You will have to consider the amount of foot traffic certain rooms receive, the humidity and even the amount of sunlight each room receives. But what you may or may not know is that one of the most important decisions that you can make regarding your flooring is the type of underlayment that you use. In this post, I’ll focus directly on the types of underlayment that you should consider if you’re installing laminate flooring.

In general, underlayment is a thin layer of cushioning designed to place under any type of flooring, be it carpeting or hardwood flooring. Though the underlayment used in the two kinds are fundamentally different. Underlayment provides a solid and smooth base for flooring to be placed on top of. They also help insulate the floor against sound, moisture and heat. Next, I’ll take a look at some different types of underlayment.

Standard underlayment is the most commonly used type of underlayment and the most inexpensive. This type of underlayment is really only good for areas where the moisture content is nonexistent, since it will do very little to protect laminate floors from moisture.

Combination underlayment is very similar to standard underlayment except for one important feature. Combination underlayment has a layer of moisture resistant material attached to it. This moisture barrier prevents any pesky moisture from the subfloor from damaging your laminate flooring.

Then there are underlayments that are designed specifically to provide the flooring with more significant soundproofing. The only difference in this type of underlayment is that it is denser. The soundproofing is really just a benefit for anyone that resides on lower floors since it doesn’t really affect the amount of sound made from walking on the laminate floor.

For homeowners that are looking for a higher level of noise reduction or for residencies that require it, cork underlayment is the best choice. Cork underlayment is made out of solid cork. It’s glued to the subfloor of the room and will greatly reduce the sound heard on lower floors. Cork underlayment is much more expensive than the other types of underlayment that I’ve gone over though. But on the other hand it is an all natural and sustainable product that is highly sought after for its soundproofing and resilient qualities. You can visit FloorMall.com for their selection of underlayment.

There are now a plethora of indoor floors available for the home-improvement enthusiast to choose from. When they say the economy is down, it is true only for certain sectors. There is no better time to shop for floors online than now, as great deals are abound everywhere.

Where flooring for indoor is concerned, first remember to look for the most reliable supplier if you’re purchasing online. Check for customer testimonials or reviews of a certain site, and cross reference it with the range of products offered. A good company should have an excellent track record and a good deal of products to choose from. Next, gain a sample of the flooring your intend to use and have it sent to your home. Place it where you want to install and observe from various angles the suitability of the component. Next, if you have made your decision, have it shipped to your house and hire a pro floor specialist to install the item.

One of the most popular form of flooring is tile flooring. Its gives any home the classy look, combining form and function into a synonymous showcase of elegance. Shiny tiles give a rejuvenating character to the home while matte tiles are understated and refined. With choices for everyone, it is no doubt one of the best selling flooring solutions on the market today.

On the other hand, there is the more affordable vinyl flooring. These simple to install solutions can come in many different shapes and sizes, and are perfectly suitable for oddly-shaped rooms and hard-to-reach areas. Design choices are also widened as various colours and unique patterns can be printed on vinyls, effectively opening up a world of creativity for the potential customer.

Flooring is one of the most essential home furnishing components, and one shouldn’t overlook its importance!

Eco-friendly flooring options abound in the marketplace. There is something available for every taste and every budget. Reclaimed wood flooring is one option to consider. Options range from antique heart pine to reclaimed Australian Chestnut, which is absolutely gorgeous for any interior space.

This is the most eco-friendly option out there as long as chemical strippers and sealants are not used in the process. Another option is Bamboo, which is technically a woody grass, and grows very quickly. Bamboo grows so quickly that it is renewable about every five years, as opposed to the 30+ years for traditional hardwood or softwood.

Another really fascinating concept is Bamboo in caramelized colors. To do so, they actually heat up the bamboo so that the natural sugars in it caramelize.

A third Eco-option for you is linoleum. While linoleum is often confused with vinyl flooring, it is actually a very eco-friendly option made from flax seed oil. It was originally developed for use as flooring on battleships, but didn’t get very far in that field due to the high flammability, which is certainly not suitable for a battleship.

Nevertheless, in this day and age, it comes in a lot of gorgeous colors and is great for kitchens and bathrooms. A forth and lesser known flooring option includes recycled glass tile. Glass is already a fairly eco-friendly material when compared to a lot of other materials. But when it is recycled, it is especially green.

And a lastly debated option is stone tile. This one is a bit up in the air, since quarrying stone can be very non-environmentally friendly. But, if taken from a well-managed quarry, it can be an environmentally sound option. If you are unsure of the quarry source (which is going to likely be the case), look for reclaimed stone, as recycling and reusing are always eco-friendly!

These green choices are suitable for the living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen and just about any room. If you prefer to lay down carpet, check out 100% un-dyed and untreated beautiful carpets. Your lungs will thank you for avoiding benzene and toluene, two VOCs (volatile organic compounds) commonly found in adhesives. Be sure the padding is made of wool or recycled materials that are also adhesive-free. Lastly, to push the envelope a little, area rugs may provide the best of both worlds — providing a cushy feeling underfoot and a surround of sustainable flooring.

Where is the one place that you need flooring that is easy to take care of and is extremely durable? The kitchen, of course! Durable kitchen flooring is not as difficult to find as you might imagine. Many flooring options that were once considered unsuitable for the kitchen have been updated to make them more durable and easy to clean.

This allows them to be easily used in any room throughout your home, including your kitchen. Your kitchen is most likely the room that has the highest amount of traffic each day. That is why it is so important to choose flooring that will stand up to the wear and tear that your family gives it and that is easy to clean when messes and spills occur.

Researching all of your options and choosing wisely can help you to choose a kitchen flooring option that will last for a lifetime of fun and cooking.

Two of the most budget friendly durable kitchen flooring options that you may want to consider are vinyl or ceramic tile. Both of these options will stand up to the abuse that your family dishes out and they look beautiful too. Vinyl and ceramic tiles are very easy to clean and maintain and are impervious to stains and spills.

Another option if you are looking for a kitchen floor that is durable is wood flooring. It creates warmth and adds its natural beauty to your kitchen. Although hardwood flooring was previously shunned in the kitchen because of its susceptibility to water damage, the new sealants on the market will allow wood to be used in the kitchen with little or no problems. L

aminate flooring is another durable kitchen flooring idea. Though it is often not advised for use in kitchens or bathrooms, laminate flooring is durable and comes in many different wood tones and grains.

There are even stone and tile lines available. It is easy to care for and is scratch and water resistant, which makes it ideal for use in kitchens. Laminate flooring is also great for do-it-yourselfers as it is very easy to install. Another great way to find kitchen flooring that is durable is to think of what kitchen countertops are made of.

Kitchen countertops have to be extremely durable and there are many flooring choices that are made of the same kind of materials as countertops. Choosing flooring that is the same as your countertops also increases the likelihood that you will have a kitchen that flows well.

Linoleum is one good example of a material that can be used as flooring and counter tops. Keep in mind, durable kitchen floors do not have to be ugly. With all of the different choices available, you are sure to find a kitchen floor that meets your desires, budget, and durability considerations.

Let’s look at some flooring options and see what can be expected air quality-wise post installation: Sheet vinyl is made by taking a layer of a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) compound (usually a PVC resin mixed with plasticizers and other additives like fungicides) and putting it on a backing material such as paper or a foamed plastic material.

A 1991 survey showed that vinyl flooring is found in 73 percent of all kitchens. Other flooring used in kitchens included ceramic tile, carpeting and wood. In bathrooms, vinyl flooring was found in 47 percent of homes, compared with ceramic tile (at 28 percent), carpeting (at 24 percent) and wood (at 17 percent).

In general, vinyl flooring may be a source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors, and may require high solvent materials for maintenance.

As for carpet, it is a very common flooring used in homes, commercial facilities and schools. It is the first product to be thoroughly studied for its indoor air quality (IAQ) effects, and found to be a low-emitter of VOCs.

The carpet industry voluntarily instituted an indoor air quality testing and labeling program in 1992. This program assures consumers that they can purchase carpet that will contribute minimal levels of VOCs into the air. The program was expanded to include carpet adhesives and cushions.

When choosing any of these materials, make sure that the product carries the Green IAQ Label from the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). This is the only flooring specific industry program in place that assures acceptable IAQ performance of flooring.

Carpet is also susceptible to mold growth if it remains chronically damp or wet. This may occur near water sources or areas where there is a constant moisture problem such as on concrete in damp basements, near leaking pipes or pipes with condensate on them, near water fountains, to name a few examples.

As for another material source, we are all familiar with wood, which for the environmentalist can be very attractive, especially if the wood comes from a sustainable forest. While new water-based polyurethane varnishes are available, most varnishes and other floor finishes still give off large quantities of VOCs into the air.

Though there are some low-VOC floor finishes available, they have not been popular since they are not as durable. Wood flooring may also be sources of formaldehyde if laminates are placed on pressed wood underlayments. The coatings and sealants may also be sources of formaldehyde. In general, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for installation and ventilation of the installation area. Do not over apply the adhesive and tack down product when possible.

Places where decorative rugs can be used include nurseries, bedrooms, hallways, entryways, playrooms, dens, bathrooms and anywhere else you have floor space. Area rugs are perfect for hardwood floors and also look great on carpeted floors, especially on heavy trafficked areas to keep carpeting clean.

A great rug company that suits the interest of children is Flagship Carpets. They have been producing high quality rugs for the educational industry for over 22 years. Other interesting facts about the company include that they are the actual manufacturer and welcome guests to their facility.

In addition, all of their rugs are made of 100% nylon. It is very important to also note that all of their rugs meet or exceed class one fire ratings. This is such an important feature to keep in mind especially when purchasing something to be placed in your young child’s room or playroom. And, you do not have to be too worried about defects as the company offers a Life Wear Warranty on all rugs.

One last fascinating fact about Flagship Carpets is that they have passed the CRI Indoor Air Quality Testing Program. On a more general note, area rugs add flair and fun to a child’s environment and will be a cherished part of a kid’s life for many years.

A great rug pulls a room’s decor together like nothing else and there is something about stepping onto a soft, awesome looking rug that just feels so good. Kids also absolutely love rugs that reflect their world and interests, which is precisely what Flagship Carpets specializes in.

Whether you opt for a decorative rug with your child’s favorite activity design or a soft, cushy rug that matches your kid’s room decor, you’ll find something spectacular to add a touch of class and splendor to your child’s room. You can also get creative by using these child geared area rugs in other rooms and areas throughout the rest of your home.

Decorating with area rugs is one of the quickest changes you can make to update and revitalize your room. Decide how much you want to invest, both financially and emotionally, in the rug. Do you want a rug that is a long term investment that will have a permanent place in your home? Or are you someone who prefers to change the look of your room frequently?

Consider the size - when choosing a size, leave at least three feet of space between the edge of the rug and the wall. This space allows any inward-opening doors to open and close easily. Also, remember your color theory basics when picking a rug. If you want your space to appear spacious, choose a lighter color. A darker color will make the room seem more intimate.

This will afford you the opportunity to evaluate just how much time you are willing and able to apply to keeping your investment looking nice and new.

Need help or advice about flooring? If you take proper care for flooring it will stay beautiful and clean for many years. Do some maintenance on your floors from time to time such as re-waxing, refinishing and re-coating. Basically dust and dirt are the major enemy of the floor, so it is necessary to dust, mop and vacuum regularly.

Following are the some steps that make floors beautiful and clean:

The first step is do not mix wood and water. Remember wood floors can take up more water, which will cause your wood floor to expand and warp. For cleaning hardwood surfaces use a slightly damp mop.

Your floor surface can also be damaged because of the vacuum beater bar, so it is better to turn that off. Instead, use a soft upholstery nozzle for your hardwood or polished stone surfaces.

Do not use household treatments or furniture polish on hardwood, as these will leave your floor slick or dull the finish. To avoid damage to your laminate floor, you should never use waxes, polishes or urethane.

Do not keep your potted plants directly in contact with your flooring. Keep them on a stand so that air can circulate underneath. Dog and cat nails can scratch and dent your floor surface, so one way to avoid this it to keep your pet’s nail trimmed regularly.

Also, on a slightly more disgusting note, maintain your floor’s finish by cleaning up your pet’s urine immediately. You also never want to use household products like vinegar on your polished surface such as marble because it will damage the stone’s surface.

Use a recommended cleaner and soft cloth if something spills. Some chemicals will unknowingly harm your floor, or change your floor color. Also, these chemicals when in the presence of wood and natural stone will oxidize in strong light.

And lastly, oh so logical, always keep protective pads on the legs of your furniture! Now that you know the maintenance involved, where shall you place the various options? If you have ample time for upkeep, your options are a little broader, but remember, good intentions will only carry you so far – you will have to put in the sweat labor to preserve your investment.
